Camels
There are about 500 camels in St.catherine only males ,the females are free in the desert.
Camels live around 25 years, can walk 30 kilometers a day and can do without water up to 12 days which they can drink 60 liters .
They can eat the spiny bush plants of Sinai and are fed with corn, chick peas on can ride the camel from the age of 4 after two years training .under its foot ,it has a cushion [like cats] .
that is why it is so smooth to ride compared to the horse.
camels have 3 different gaits :walk ,trot, gallop.
the female has a gestation period of one year and gives to only one small
camel [never twins }
they are cousins of lamas , in south America .
